The name Paige is an English surname and a spelling variation of Page. In medieval times, a page was an attendant to a knight. It is from an Old French word meaning “young helper” or an apprentice.

Paige Premium Denim was founded in 2004 by Miss California 1991 and fit model Paige Adams-Geller. Before starting her own jeans line, Paige Adams-Geller worked diligently as the industry’s sought after fit model for denim brands such as Guess, Seven, Joe’s Jeans, Lucky Brand, Citizens of Humanity, Habitual, True Religion and a lot more. As a fit model, she helped out denim designers carve their own unique brand identities.

Her extensive experience, goofy enthusiasm, attention to technical and creative details paved way for her independent fashion venture. She launched Paige Premium Denim to prove that you don’t have to be a size zero to look and feel great in a pair of designer jeans. The brand focused on creating the “perfect fitting jean” that accentuates the butt and curves.

Headquartered and manufactured in Los Angeles, California, Paige Premium Denim not only established a flagship store in Beverly Hills but also expanded to Europe as well. Today, the brand also offers men’s, kid’s, maternity and petite clothing lines.

It may initially sound like an infant formula but UNIQLO is one of Japan’s leading clothing retail chain around. The brand’s success in Japan paved way for international expansion in Asia, Americas and Europe.

UNIQLO is a primary subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., a Japanese retail holding company which owns brands such as ASPESI, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Foot Park, National Standard and is affiliated with American-Japanese clothing brand Theory.

Since 1949, a chain of men’s clothing shops called Men’s Shop Ogori Shoji propagated in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. By June 1984, a unisex casual wear store opened in Fukuro-machi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima, Japan under the name “Unique Clothing Warehouse”. To shorten the title, the company came up with UNIQLO as an acronym for “Unique Clothing”. In 1991, they changed the company name from Ogori Shoji to Fast Retailing.

The 1998 fleece campaign boosted UNIQLO across Japan. Since then the company has adapted to dynamic economic scenarios and managed to open stores outside Japan. The first set of global flagship stores opened in New York’s SOHO in 2006 and London’s Oxford in 2007. The global R&D systems in New York and Tokyo continue to capture fashion trends that affect consumer lifestyles.

Today, UNIQLO‘s philosophy extends to clothing as lifestyle components. The brand does not dictate a total lifestyle. Instead, UNIQLO‘s apparel are items that the individual chooses to express a personal lifestyle that’s exciting and enjoyable. In the socio-political arena, the term “Banana Republic” refers to a politically unstable country which relies on limited agricultural resources, such as bananas. The nation is also governed by a dictatorial military junta exploiting large scale plantations. Today, the term is often used to describe a backward dictatorial regime where corruption, extortion and fraud are rampant.

On the other hand, in fashion, it is quite the opposite. Banana Republic is a luxury brand recognized as a sophisticated workwear and modern casual clothing line.
