Argentina is popular with its well trained horses, flavorful steaks, vast vineyards, distinct selections of wines, nostalgic tango and the love for soccer. Argentine brand, A.Y. Not Dead, also makes waves in international fashion and designer jeanswear. A.Y. Not Dead is a blend of punk, streetwear and rock & roll.

In 2001, Noel Romero and a friend initiated a label that eventually kicked off the A.Y. Not Dead brand. Back then the first collection named “Now I Love an Argentinian Girl” was a tribute to the Argentine rock band Sumo and a coming home celebration after training in London. It was not until 2003 that brothers, Diego and Martin, together with Noel Romero got their chance for fashion week to launch their collection entitled “Le Freak c’est Chic” which was a celebration of underground culture. This officially marked the launch of their label which grabbed attention among the public and fashion media everywhere. They opened their first store in 2004 in Palermo Viejo.

Buenos Aires-based A.Y. Not Dead continues to make noise. Argentine designer Maria Cher is also in collaboration with their development and collection pieces. From their website, they have stores in Argentina and Chile.

The downtown Los Angeles controversial brand, has been infamously known for its sexually charged advertising and brutally honest messages with raw or non existent Photoshop fake airbrushing seen in tons of ads today. American Apparel is a vertically integrated manufacturer, distributor and retailer which operates more than 285 retail stores in 20 countries. Their production facilities also conduct environmentally friendly procedures, such as using solar power, recycling fabric scraps and utilizing organic cotton, plus sustainable processes such as “Creative Reuse”.

American Apparel was founded in 1989 by Canadian Dov Charney, who had an established experience in shirts and a fascination with American culture. With its previous success as a wholesale brand, the company expanded into the retail business. The stores are marketed and designed individually usually located in areas for urban renewal and underground culture. In 2007, the company opened a retail location for vintage clothing called California Select in Echo Park in Los Angeles, CA.
