Desigual is the Spanish translation for something that is unequal, different, distinct or unlevelled.

Founded in 1984 by Swiss native, Thomas Meyer, Desigual is known for its signature patchwork designs, rich colorful print patterns, dynamic graffiti art designs and vibrant color explosion. From Isabel Coixet’s idea, they chose the name “Desigual” and accompanied it by the slogan of “It’s not the same”.

Based in Barcelona, Spain, the casual clothing brand has been led by Manel Adell since 2002. The key factor for their success is the concept of Fun&Profit. Enjoying work while achieving sustainable growth is the essence. Their core brand values, which are positivism, joy, unconventional spirit, non inhibition, emotion and complicity, make Desigual a unique company and business environment.

Each season, the Desigual design team of 20 creatives, ideates a collection of over 1,000 items which they build around a single unifying concept. They respond to current and upcoming trends while keeping track towards fun, well being and quality of life. In January 2011, Desigual launched a peculiar marketing campaign in Spain, Portugal, London, Berlin, Stockholm, Prague and New York City with the slogan and sales hook of “Come in undressed and go out dressed”.

Today, Desigual employs a crew of 2,800 people of more than 72 nationalities. The company prides itself with 7,000 multibrand stores, 200 Desigual brand stores, 1,700 corners & shop-in-shops all over the world and a global ecommerce website.

The name “Mac” is perhaps among the most well known and most used names in history and culture today. Many times, people use it as a shortcut to names with a prefix of Mc or Mac, such as McDonald, McGwire, Mackenzie or even MacGyver. Apple’s Macintosh computer and operating system are widely utilized by the Internet generation. For women, MAC could mean a cosmetics and make-up brand.

In jeanswear fashion, MAC is a German denim label founded in 1973 in Wald/Rossbach. Initially, production focused exclusively on trousers and has gained continuous success. Over the years, MAC has combined fabric durability and design creativity in their products. The Bi-Stretch Denim, high proportion stretch Dream Jeans and the uniquely fit Power Denim are just among the many innovations that the brand has produced.

A black orchid is a mythical unicorn of the orchid flower world. There has been no orchid found to be truly black in color. Instead, the flower is a darker shade of blue which looks black to the naked eye. Black orchids are popular in stories involving witchcraft, fiction, spooky legends, myths and pop culture comic characters. They are believed to be mysterious and magical.

Just as the flower, Black Orchid denim also symbolizes rarity and beauty found in something simple yet affordable form. Founder, Julien Jarmoune, took his passion and talent to design clothes which uniquely flatter a woman’s figure. Many celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Demi Moore, Katherine Heigl, Dakota Fanning, AnnaLynne McCord, Hilary Duff, Nikki Reed, Paris Hilton, Marcia Cross and Emmy Rossum, have been spotted wearing these Black Orchid denim jeans out on the city streets.

A gene is a molecular unit passed on to many generations from a living organism. It is made up of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), RNA (ribonucleic acid) and other proteins. A DNA has a double helix shape, which is like a ladder twisted into a spiral. Genes are hereditary. It decides how the offspring will act, how the body will work and how it looks, such as eye or hair color.

On the other hand, Genetic Denim is a Los Angeles, California based denim label known for its soft jeans. Founded in 2006 by Ali Fatourechi, Shaun Hurley and Scott Sartiano, Genetic Denim has expanded its distribution to more than 200 stores domestically and also internationally to Japan, Canada and Australia. The brand prides itself with its fit, fabrication and individuality.

H&M was established in Västerås, Sweden in 1947 by Erling Persson through their women’s clothing store called Hennes. In 1968, the founder, Erling Persson, bought the hunting/fishing equipment shop and menswear/kids clothing line, Mauritz Widforss. Eventually the company name Hennes (Swedish for “her or hers or women”) was modified to Hennes & Mauritz. Later on, it was abbreviated to H&M.

The 1970s brought H&M‘s listing on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and an international store in London. The 1980s saw shops open in Germany and the Netherlands including the acquisition of a mail order company called Rowells. Further to the 1990s, H&M continued to expand in Europe and massive advertising gained more exposure. The new millenium brought H&M its first US store in New York, several collaborations with famous personalities and designers, an ecommerce expansion and more openings in Asia such as Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo. In 2007, the concept store COS was launched. In 2008, the company acquired the FaBric Scandinavien AB with Weekday, Monki and Cheap Monday brands. By 2011, H&M already launched stores in Russia, Lebanon, South Korea, Israel, Romania and many more. The brand has also expanded into different markets such as home collection, cosmetics, accessories and footwear. H&M carries the &denim jeans among its various jeanswear line.

Pepe is actually a nickname of Jose (Spanish), Joseph (Hebrew) and Giuseppe (Italian). It can also be a variant of Pedro (Spanish, Portuguese) and often an Italian surname. Etymologically, Pepe derives from Saint Joseph, who is the father of Jesus.

On the other hand, Pepe Jeans London, originally Saint Tropez Trading Company, is a denim jeans brand and casual wear founded in the Portobello Road area of West London in 1973 by Kenyan brothers, Nitin, Arun & Milan Shah. By 1980, Pepe Jeans London became one of UK’s most successful jeans brand in the market rivalling big US labels and designer jeans. In 2002-2004, they launched the premium denim collection 73 and kidswear line. In 2007, the Andy Warhol by Pepe Jeans collection was introduced. While in 2009, the Portobello by Pepe Jeans kicked off. Pepe Jeans London also sponsors the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team. Their advertising campaigns have featured well known personalities and top models such as Bruce Weber, Bridget Hall, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, Laetitia Casta, Sienna Miller, Jason Priestley, Ashton Kutcher, James Jagger and Alexa Chung. Today, Pepe Jeans London is available in more than 60 countries across the world.
