Albert Einstein has E=mc2. The mass–energy equivalence in physics is the concept that the mass of a body is a measure of its energy content. While in the style world, fashion equals DSquared2.

Dean and Dan Caten, Canadian twin brothers from Willowdale, Ontario, moved to New York City in 1983 to attend the Parson’s School of Design. After a short stint, they moved back to Toronto and pursued their first signature womens line, DEanDAN. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s, they managed to work with various designers and brands such as Ports 1961, Gianni Versace and Diesel. Since moving to Italy in 1991, Dean and Dan Caten finally debuted their first menswear collection named “Homesick Canada Collection” in Milan. In 1996, the “Napoli” collection, inspired by the Neapolitan roots of their father, also premiered.

When the new millennium came in, DSquared2, gained prominence and massive media exposure. In 2000, the brand created the wardrobe for Madonna’s video, Don’t Tell Me. In 2002, Madonna wore DSquared2 for the cowboy segment of her “Drowned World Tour 2002″ and their womenswear line launched in Milan. The decade saw DSquared2‘s expansion of its media presence through collaborations with well known personalities such as Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Fergie and Britney Spears. Designers, Dean and Dan Caten, also garnered many awards recognizing their talent and influence. Furthermore, the company also became active in sports and sponsored Turin’s soccer club, Juventus and Barcelona Football Club.

Pepe is actually a nickname of Jose (Spanish), Joseph (Hebrew) and Giuseppe (Italian). It can also be a variant of Pedro (Spanish, Portuguese) and often an Italian surname. Etymologically, Pepe derives from Saint Joseph, who is the father of Jesus.

On the other hand, Pepe Jeans London, originally Saint Tropez Trading Company, is a denim jeans brand and casual wear founded in the Portobello Road area of West London in 1973 by Kenyan brothers, Nitin, Arun & Milan Shah. By 1980, Pepe Jeans London became one of UK’s most successful jeans brand in the market rivalling big US labels and designer jeans. In 2002-2004, they launched the premium denim collection 73 and kidswear line. In 2007, the Andy Warhol by Pepe Jeans collection was introduced. While in 2009, the Portobello by Pepe Jeans kicked off. Pepe Jeans London also sponsors the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team. Their advertising campaigns have featured well known personalities and top models such as Bruce Weber, Bridget Hall, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, Laetitia Casta, Sienna Miller, Jason Priestley, Ashton Kutcher, James Jagger and Alexa Chung. Today, Pepe Jeans London is available in more than 60 countries across the world.

A cherub is a heavenly being who is considered among the second order of angels. Cherubims or cherubs are generally represented as winged children with cute chubby faces and rosy cheeks. In Roman mythology, the cherub is depicted as Cupid who is the god of desire, affection and erotic love. Cupid is often portrayed as a winged boy or baby armed with a bow and a quiver of arrows. In the fashion world and denim jeans history, one of the most iconic brands is Fiorucci‘s logo with 2 cherubs.

The strength of a successful iconic brand such as Fiorucci lies in its identity and capability to remain youthful through three long decades. Founded by Elio Fiorucci, the first shop was established in Gallery Passarella in Milan in 1967. With the new lifestyle concept of youth garnered by the hype initiated from the shop’s opening and presence, Fiorucci decided to embody the Victorian image, graphically adapted by the architect Italo Lupi, of the two famous little angels as their new logo.

The dawn of the disco 70s gained exposure for the Fiorucci brand. More stores opened in Milan, London, New York and Los Angeles. With the emergence of Madonna, Flashdance, Miami Vice, punk, new wave and hair metal in the 1980s, Fiorucci further solidified its identity into pop culture. The first stretch jeans were born with the injection of Du Pont’s Lycra in Fiorucci’s denim fabrics. In 1985, the brand was crowned the “king of jeans” and signed the Italian license with American iconic label, Wrangler. By the time the anti-fashion “anything goes” 1990s decade came in, the company, including its trademarks Fiorucci, Fioruccino, Fiorucci Safety Jeans, Fiorucci Time and the “angels” figurative mark, were purchased by famous Japanese cult denim, Edwin International. The roaring mash up decade of the 2000s brought expansion to Fiorucci through perfumes, home collections and product collaborations. With a new era initiated in 2011, the collaboration with Ittierre S.p.A and Naomi Campbell recharged the womenswear line. This year, the eyewear collection also takes flight.

Founded in 2008 in Japan by Daisaku Yamada (Dan), HASO jeans is a designer jeans brand that encourages its customers to be involved in the design of jeans. The word “haso” means creative in Japanese. The denim label embraces the “happy and moved” and “play on jeans” slogans which Daisaku Yamada (Dan) expresses. Their production process incorporates high grade Japanese fabrics from Okayama. Today, HASO jeans has established its fashion presence in China, particularly in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenyang and Chongqing.

Founded in 2000, Cycle Jeans is the brainchild of Andrea Bertin and Elena Boaretto together with production partner, Italservices S.p.a. Andrea Bertin’s experience came in from working with Alberto Biani and the E-Play line. While, Elena Boaretto’s experience came in from Replay’s womens sector. Both designers came from Fashion Box.

The desire to give cyclicity and mission to reinvent and recreate, according to their lifestyle, pre-existing ways of being, brought forth the existence of the Cycle brand. It is this principle that Cycle‘s clothing designs are a rich blend of strong research, shapes, fabrics, finishings, weaving techniques, washes and modern production processes. The style formula combines sartorial feel and modern casual apparel.

“Be sure wear pure” is the slogan that represents the brand. “Be sure” stresses the passion with which each Cycle garment is created. “Wear pure” refers to the natural materials and best fabrics used. Top Japanese denim fibers through notable Italian finishing companies such as Lavanderia Martelli show quality of the garments made.
