The French word Façonner (pronounced “fassonee”) means to create, to mold, fashion, form or give a shape to. This is the same word that a variation was used to name an international high end men’s and women’s tailored clothing French company.

Founded by Jean Goldberg in 1950 and later on headed by his son Albert Goldberg, Façonnable (pronounced “fuss-saw-nab”) is headquartered in Nice, France. In 1988 through the 1990s, Nordstrom partnered up with the company to provide exclusive distribution in the United States via Nordstrom retail stores. The first women’s line was launched in 1995. By the year 2000, Nordstrom finally purchased Façonnable SAS and founder Albert Goldberg retired. After a few years, a Lebanon based family-owned company, M1 Group, purchased Façonnable in 2007. Along with sub-brands such as Façonnable Azur and Façonnable Sport, the company recently launched Façonnable Jeans catering to the US market and Façonnable Tailored Denim in Europe.

Today, Façonnable is available in 24 stores in France, 42 stores around the world, including 9 in the USA. The brand represents modern elegance and French luxury valuing authenticity over pageantry.

Zadig ou la Destinée or “Zadig, or The Book of Fate” is a famous novel and philosophical fiction written by François-Marie Arouet Voltaire. The book presents life in the confines of destiny beyond human control.

Thierry Gillier, from Troyes, France, first opened his clothing stores with the name “Zadig” after Voltaire’s book character. Zadig ultimately showed charisma, modernity and courage in the novel. In 1996-97, Thierry met his wife Amelie in Paris and together, with the same passion and direction, launched Zadig & Voltaire.

Iro in Japanese means hue or color. In the fashion world, IRO is more than just a color splash. IRO is a French brand that combines Parisian chic, vintage rock & roll edge and modern New York streetwear. With a background in the music industry, brothers, Laurent and Arik Bitton, started IRO in 2002. Their first boutique opened in St. Germain, Paris in 2005. WTF! Yes, WTFjeans that is. Sanja Rastovac and Pedja Puselja initiated the idea to mix geekdom with fashion trends. The WTFjeans was born to solve gadget storage such as iPods and iPhones in everyday denim jeans. With style in mind, prices are still affordable. The catch is that there are only 1000 pairs of jeans available. Right now, there may only be a handful left. According to the Sept 20th blog post by Sanja, the business is closing down.

WTFjeans prides itself with iPhone or iPod Touch pocket, Micro-fiber interior iPhone pocket protection and Hidden Memory stick USB pocket. Menswear has extra padding protection at the crotch. The fit on the waist is high cut in the back and low rise in front. Back pockets styling, coined as Sexyass, are positioned to make the rear buttocks stand out, so they say. And of course, contrast blue stitching referred to as Twitter bloo™ sewing reminds fashionistas not to forget tweeting.
