This may well be the jeans that launched a thousand ships. In light of literary pieces from satirist Lucian’s Dialogues of the Dead to Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus in reference to Helen of Troy, Nautica‘s essence reflects the power of stylistic influence from oceanic adventures and seafaring lifestyles.
Nautica‘s namesake came from the Latin word “Nauticus”, which means ship. The spinnaker logo complemented this concept as a symbol of adventure, action and classicism. Founded in 1983 by David Chu and eventually purchased by VF Corporation in 2003, the clothing company evolved from a men’s outerwear collection to a global lifestyle brand expanding to women’s and children’s apparel as well as accessories and home collection. They have the classic Nautica jeans and Nautica Jeans Co. N-Series.
