Ann Demeulemeester Jeanswear

Soulful poetic justice. Ann Demeulemeester’s fashion sense declares a myriad of contrasting emotions. The romantic fluidity of patterns, florals and color choices capture the depth of the soul. Jeans are also part of the balance. The creative concept of layering shows how complex textures are all intertwined into a strong central theme.

Ann Demeulemeester 2008-2009 collections are zesty and stimulating. The trousers have velveteen, satin velvet and herringbone fabrics, multipockets and pink floral design. Long sleeved shirts have ultra tailored ruches or pleated detailing, fleece or gabardine fabrics and chinese or regular collars. Traditional waistcoats are redesigned with tweed or twill fabrics, snap button closures, rear slits, ruches and strap detailing. Blazers and coats have twill, tweed or herringbone fabrics, 1 or 3 button closures, an off lapel button closure, double breasted full closure. Jeanswear is a minor facet but the rest are comprehensive.

For womenswear, the boots are high just below the knee and paired off with tucked in skinny rumpled pants. Scarves are arctic white, royal lilacs, thick, chunky and very textured. Coats are layered, draped and wrapped around usually with belt straps. The use of modified ponchos and fedoras with medium to large brims are noticeable.

With a solid background from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium, Ann Demeulemeester is considered to be one of the Antwerp Six. This influential fashion collective was a breakthrough movement during the 1980s with its unique radical vision for fashion. Since then she has expanded her brand collections and continues to be one of fashion’s leading creative forces worldwide.
